Alexandria Transportation

Getting to and around Alexandria is a snap. It’s served by three airports: Ronald Reagan National Washington Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Interstate 95/495, the Beltway, travels along Alexandria’s southern border, and Interstate 395 crosses through the western section. State Route 7, also known as King Street, bisects Alexandria north and south.

Amtrak runs an intercity train, and Virginia Railway Express provides regional rail service. Stations include Alexandria Union Station, Braddock Road, Eisenhower Avenue, and Van Dorn Street.

The DASH bus system is owned by the city and takes visitors and residents to major points of interest.

Water taxis, conventional taxis, trolleys, and shuttles also provide easy access to numerous locations in the city and beyond.

Many of Alexandria’s individual communities are compact, so nothing is too far away. Lots of residents walk or bike to their neighborhood destinations.
